6 Sep 2005 - September News

Welcome back. We hope you have all had a good rest and are ready to begin another year! A special welcome to those of you joining us at Dinglewell for the first time this term.

PTA AGM & Quiz Night
The PTA will be holding their AGM to
review this year?s events at 7 pm on Friday
September 23rd. We have a very active and
enthusiastic PTA, please support the AGM as they have worked very hard again this year.
New members will be greatly appreciated - many hands make light work!
Following the brief business meeting there will be one of their popular Quizzes. Come with a group of friends and form a team.

Morning drop off
Just a reminder that children can be left at the inner gate after staff come on duty at 8.45am, except for Reception children who should be taken to their classrooms at 8.50am. If you do feel it necessary to accompany your children into the playground please keep to the sides of the playground and leave either as soon as the bell is rung or after all the children have walked into their classes. It is very difficult for Class 4 and 5 staff in particular to keep the children safe if parents are walking down past the school at the same time as the children. Thank you.

Illness
Due to recent events in Scotland we want to ensure that we can account for all
children who are absent from school. To help us in this we would be grateful if you could
inform the office by 9.30 am if your child is ill (NB a message on the answer-phone is sufficient). If we haven?t received a message the office staff will
contact you.

Buddy Readers and Class/Library
Volunteers
Two years ago we inaugurated a ?Buddy reading? scheme. Adult buddies spent 10 minutes either at 9.00 am or at 3.00 pm, three or more days a week helping a particular child with reading. Everyone was thrilled with the
progress made by the children who were able to participate in the scheme. The additional practice and motivation provided really did make a
difference. If you have this time to spare and would like to be a ?buddy? please let the office know as soon as possible.
We also welcome volunteers to help in the
classrooms and library, again if you are able to spare a morning or afternoon on a regular basis please let the office know.
There will be a meeting for all helpers, established and new at 2.30 pm on September 21st. If you are not sure about helping in school and would like more information please come to that meeting.

Parking
Here is our regular plea for considerate parking outside school in the mornings and afternoons.
We are constantly receiving complaints from our neighbours who find their driveways blocked - please ensure you leave space.
The zig-zag and white lines outside the school gates mean ?DO NOT PARK? this is to give a clear view for people crossing the road.
Please leave space for lorries and emergency
vehicles - parents? cars were damaged last year
because of inconsiderate parking.

Teachers? Planning and Preparation Time
From the beginning of this term teachers are
entitled to spend 10% of the school week out of the classroom for planning preparation and
assessment. Our full time teachers will be taking the majority of this time on a Friday when cover will be provided by Mrs Bews, Mrs Chilvers, Mrs Steer and Mrs Thomas all of whom either teach at the school currently or have done so in the recent past.

Parent Worship
The Year 1 & 2 classes will be leading
Friday Worships for parents to attend at 9.05 am. Please check the Diary your child?s Worship date.

After School Clubs for Years 1 & 2
Once again we have a wide variety of after school clubs on offer for the children. To simplify things this year all clubs will run from 3.15 pm to 4 pm and on the same weeks of the year. The only exceptions to this will be clubs provided by other providers eg Music Club and French for which specific information will be available.
Accompanying this newsletter you will find details of the clubs available and a form to state
preferences. Many of the clubs are for limited numbers and so although we will try to ensure that every child has the club of their choice we can not guarantee that some children will not be
disappointed. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please return the forms to the office. Thank you.

Curriculum Evenings
Please check the calendar opposite for the date of the evening for your child?s year group. During these sessions the staff will be giving you an overview of what the children will be learning this year and how you can support them at home.
