COMMUNITY NEWS

There are exciting developments concerning the community buildings on the site of St. Philip and St. James Church on Larkhay Road.
The present community buildings on the site are obsolete, worn out and difficult to maintain, so we are hoping to erect a new Church Community Centre building
adjacent to the Church building. The scheme will involve selling some land in order to raise capital for the development and demolishing some of the existing, former school buildings on the site. The new building will be a resource for the whole community of Hucclecote and we would therefore like to hear from YOU about what sort of building and facilities you would like to see on the site in the future. There is a PUBLIC MEETING planned for 7.00 pm on Saturday 22nd October to show the provisional plans and to talk about the scheme. Please feel free to come along. (Mike Burke ? Vicar of St. Philip & St. James.)

Operation Christmas Child
As in previous years the school will be supporting Operation Christmas Child this year. This involves filling a shoe box with toiletries, toys, sweets etc for needy
children abroad. Leaflets will be issued shortly giving full details. Filled boxes will need to be in school by Friday 4th November.

Absence
If your child is unexpectedly unable to come to school through illness please phone the office so that it is recorded on the class register.

If you know your child is going to be absent due to a term time holiday or a day out you must seek authorisation first. The school is able to consider a maximum of 10 days authorised leave during one academic year.
Forms for obtaining authorisation are available from the office.

Late Arrivals
Children who arrive at school after the register has been taken must be signed into the Late Register at the office.
Children who are being collected earlier than 3.10 pm must be signed out in the Early Collection Register.
Please note if you are bringing your child into school late eg after a doctor's appointment, please make sure you tell the office if you
expect him/her to have a hot school dinner that day as unless the Kitchen is advised before 10.30 am they will be unable to provide a meal.

School Link
Each term we send home a catalogue of reduced price books from School Link, a branch of The Book People. Orders can be sent into school and we can claim free postage if they total more than £50.

This is often a chance to buy birthday or
Christmas gifts and the school earns a small commission.

Charity
Last year we raised £1014 for Reach (the Association for Children with Hand or Arm Deficiencies) Thank you to everyone who supported the events which raised this sum.

Coats
It is important that all children bring a coat into school each day. Even on sunny days the playground can be cool. The children still have outdoor playtime even if it is lightly raining.

School Uniform
When you are laundering your child?s school uniform please check the labels to make sure he/she has his/her own clothing. We have several children who cannot find their named sweatshirts/cardigans.

School Nurse Drop-In
Each term our school nurse, Kate Amos does an informal Drop-In session for Parents in the school Library. No appointment is necessary and for
confidentiality entry to the Library is via the playground. This is an opportunity for you to discuss any concerns you may have regarding your child's health, wellbeing or any other problems you feel she may be able to help with. The next session is on Thursday 10th October at 8.45 am.

Class 4 & 5
Could parents waiting for Classes 4 & 5 to be allowed out, please keep to the Infants side of the paving at 3.10 pm as parents of children in other classes are having difficulty getting through.
