1 Feb 2006 - February News

Focus on Manners
Hopefully in recent weeks you have
noticed your children opening the door for you or standing aside to let you pass. Since the beginning of term we have been having a focus on good manners as part of the PSHCE curriculum at school. Children who are being
thoughtful in this way are currently being rewarded with a ?leaf on the tree? [the children will explain], but we are hoping that this will just become ?what we do? without need for bribery!

School Dress
During the cold weather several children are wearing boots to school, which although ideal for outdoor wear are less suitable for many in-school activities. If your child is wearing boots to school could you please send shoes to school for indoor wear. Thank you.

Could I also remind you that long hair which flops across the face should be tied back for school. It is
particularly dangerous during PE lessons.

Maths Week
Week beginning 6th February we are having a Maths focus week. Look out for notices inviting you into school to play maths games with the children. Don?t be put off by the word maths, snakes and ladders involves a lot of mathematical concepts!!

Music Week - March 27th - 31st
Any parents who sing, play an instrument or know anyone who does and would be
willing to come into school during our music week please let the office or a teacher know. We are arranging for some professional musicians to visit and perform during the week, but would love to broaden the experiences we can offer the children by using home grown talent.

PTA Disco - Friday 10th March
The PTA are holding another of their very popular children?s discos. Please put the date in your diary. Details of times and cost to follow.

Operation Crater
We have been informed by our local Community Beat Office that the school has been included in Operation Crater with the aim of improving the safety of children at the beginning and end of the school day. The police are going to target local schools and issue fines where appropriate if cars are parked on double yellow lines, zigzags or dangerous corners.

Can I also remind you that parents/carers should not drive into the school car park at the
beginning or end of the school day unless they have the explicit permission of Mr Hayball or Mrs Gleich and then only at the time agreed.

Parent Governor
Mr Stephen Howells has resigned as Parent Governor - we thank him for his efforts on behalf of the school.
You will be receiving nomination papers shortly to elect a replacement for him on the Governing Body.

New Entrance
We hope you have had a chance to
admire the extended entrance hall.
If you require standard forms eg
Absence Authorisation, Uniform Orders etc you can help yourself from the wall stands. Menus and copies of recent letters will also be kept here. The books for visitors to sign in and for children to be signed in and out are still available on the shelf by the hatch. If you need to speak to the
Secretaries they are available at the hatch as usual.

REMINDER:
Contact Numbers
If you change your job or mobile phone please remember to tell the office as soon as
possible. If we need to contact you it is usually
urgent and could lead to your child being
unnecessarily upset if the numbers are out of date!

Vouchers
We have registered for The Citizen ?£10,000 Golden Giveaway?. Please collect as many vouchers as possible from The Citizen from 1st February and put them in the collection box in the Entrance.
If we win we are proposing to have a purpose-built canopy put in the playground to provide shade for the children in the summer.

We are also still collecting the following:
Nestle Box Tops
Persil Stars
Sainsbury Active Kids vouchers

The Tesco vouchers collected last term (8340 of them) have been used to order dancing rings,
dancing scarves, non-slip spots, bean bag target, obstacles etc.

Toilets
Please note: Class 8 cloakroom is open in the mornings and at the end of the school day should pre-school children require a toilet whilst you are waiting for your older children to go in/come out of school.

Cleaner
We are urgently seeking another cleaner for the school.
The hours would be from
3.00 pm - 5.30 pm Monday to Friday. Some cleaning
during the holiday periods would be
expected.
If you or someone you know is
interested in the post please contact the
office as soon as possible.
